During the holidays, JE decided on a barbeque along the “Detski Poezd” rail tracks of not far from the banks of the Volga River. We had with us freshmen Kian Leong, Adrian, Jen Fai and Jason. Its their first time on a Russian style barbeque. The barbeque kicked off with Xun Jin and Kelvin demonstrating their scouting skills by getting the barbeque pit ready and the flames up. We actually dug trenches in the ground. Soon the deliciously scent of pork and chicken “shashliks”(skewered meat) was permeating the air. These bunch of people were busy tucking into fried rice, sausages and spaghetti. In short everyone had a good time filling their bellies and enjoying one another’s company, pretty good for an otherwise uneventful day. The falling darkness had us cut short the fun as the guys were just getting into a game of football. With all this said be on the lookout for the next JE cookout.

What started off as a simple gesture to welcome the freshmen who arrived in Volgograd has now become a Jesus
Embassy tradition. Three years ago, “Wassup! Making new friends “
began as a simple party . We had dance performances, games, music and off coarse
food. This year, by the grace of God we carried on the tradition

Wassup! Making new friends 2008 kicked off with a number from our Russian youth. Needless to say, the band was spectacular. By 6.30 in the evening , a crowd of about a hundred and thirty
people had already filled the hall. This year, we were joined by Russian guests
as compared to the previous years. For one and a half hour, we kept our guest
on their feet and cheering for more especially after a contemporary dance by
the LIFE dance group. It was obvious that the freshmen were initially a little
abashed and shy but after some ice breaking and games they went right into the
mood. To top it, our very own drama team pulled a hilarious skit of a commencing
Russian class, which turned out to be outrageously funny. The last item for
the night was a performance by “Audience Of One”, a band by our
very own Jesus Embassy members. The musicians got the crowd all hyped up and
cheering but had to turn down the volume after three songs, to make way for
food. Our audience were initially disappointed but not for long.

This year the menu for the day was Asian cuisine, Chinese and Indian cooking to be exact. Our guests tucked into portions of sweet and sour chicken and curried vegetable mix. In
short the food was delightful. When it seemed that all fun is about to end,
we extended yet another invitation: XMAS Bash 2008, which is to be coming soon.

It is humbling to know how we started off with this event and where have we arrived to. In everything that we do, all thanksgiving and glory to our father in heaven

On the 1st of May, God opened a door for Jesus Embassy to be a part of a Russian youth conference in the city of Smolensk. It was indeed a new and unforgettable experience as we were invited not only to participate but also to minister as well, in leading worship and sharing the word. It is simply amazing how, a trip to a city which before this was completely unknown can bring a change to the lives our members. The God we serve is indeed an awesome God.

A little history: Smolensk is a city in western Russia, located on the Dnieper River. It is one of the oldest standing cities in Russia. To say the least, the 20 hour journey in a van was anything but comfortable. However the fun and laughter we had, quickly made us forget about how cramped the van actually was.

The conference themed “hearts ablaze “kicked of with our host, Pastor Andrea welcoming the guest and a short time of getting to know one another. What followed for the next 2 days were amazing sessions of praise and worship led by youths from different cities throughout Russia, off which Jesus embassy had the honor of leading two of the sessions. Now this was the first time that we led praise and worship in Russian. We were also taught In God’s word through the messages that were preached and the workshops.

A quick summary about the messages during the conference:

1)Do not have a stereotype mentality. God does not always work in the way we would expect, for example He chose David who was the lease of his brothers to be king. Therefore we must be ready to allow God to do unbelievable things in our lives.

2)

2) As Christians, our life resembles a cup ,we can only pour out whatever we have within us, so we must fill our lives with God’s word

3)

3) The power of the cross to forgive sins and to bring about a change in our lives. A change that would make other people want to know Jesus

4)

4) To follow after the footsteps of king Josiah, who at a very young age decided to follow God and tear down the idols of his time.

There were also talks on Relationship and workshops on the area of “worship, evangelism, Godly dreams, and believing God in the modern world”. The leaders from Jesus embassy were also given the pulpit to share the message that God has placed in their hearts to the youths.

It would have been a waste to travel so far and not see the city. Fortunately for us, God blessed us with Michael and Julia. This lovely couple whom the students befriended during the conference was kind enough to take the team on a tour into the city and also to get a taste of the local food. Smolensk is indeed a beautiful city. Many ancient buildings and lovely parks were spotted.

Throughout the camp we spend a great amount of time mingling with the youth and listening to them share about what God has been doing in their lives and also their dreams and desires. It’s a glimpse of what the apostle Paul would have felt among the gentiles. It was also a good experience for the Jesus Embassy team as they act in drama, sing, and even preach on stage. This conference was really a one of a kind sort of experience.

As the hour too leave came about, we found that regardless of nationality , culture or even language differences, the love of Christ binds us as a family

A shout out to the team: The greatest act one can do is to worship God and love Him. It is an honor serving alongside.

Special thanks to Ps Andrea and Ps Ricardo for your hospitality, last but not least Michael and Julia for being such a blessing to us.

Smolensk

Smolensk is a city in western Russia, located on the Dnieper River, the administrative centre of Smolensk Oblast. Its population was estimated as 351,100. Situated 360 km west-southwest of Moscow, this walled city was destroyed several times throughout its long history since it was on the invasion routes of both Napoleon and Hitler. Today, Smolensk is noted for electronics, textiles, and food processing. Smolensk is among the oldest of Russian cities. The first recorded mention of the city was 863 AD, two years after the founding of ancient Russia. According to Russian Primary Chronicle, Smolensk was the capital of the Slavic Krivichs tribe in 882 when Oleg took it in passing from Novgorod to Kiev. Due to its central position amid Russian lands, the city developed rapidly. By the end of the 12th century the princedom was one of the strongest in Eastern Europe, so that Smolensk dynasty frequently controlled the “Kievan” throne. Numerous churches were built in the city at that time, including the church of Sts Peter and Paul (1146, reconstructed to its presumed original appearance after WWII) and church of St John the Baptist (1180, also partly rebuilt). The most remarkable church in the city is called Svirskaya (1197, still standing); it was admired by contemporaries as the most beautiful structure to the east of Kiev.

It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; he is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; he is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is he who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is he who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is he who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal. - Pope John Paul II, World Youth Day 2000.

Blessings to you in perfect name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Bible says in Psalm 25:14 "The 'secret' of the Lord is with them that fear Him and He will show them His covenant."

The word 'secret' means, things that are whispered, spoken in the intimacy of the bed chamber. There are things that are shouted, things that are shared among friends, things that are shared around family. But then there are things that are whispered in the bed chamber that are not for everyone's ears to hear...

This is what the word 'secret' means. God has things to say to us that He will not shout out in general places...things that He will not speak out loud in a company of strangers, guests, or even around the table...but only in the place of intimacy.

David said that God reveals these secret things to those who FEAR Him. The more you learn the FEAR of the LORD, the more intimate you become with Him and then He begins to reveal the 'secret' things...things not spoken to just any one...There are things that we say to our boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, that we will not say to anyone else; it is reserved for them alone. Fear of the Lord causes God to say things to us, reveal things to us that are not spoken to just anyone nor can it be. OH, hallelujah!

Pastor Paul Ellis

The face that Moses had begged to see, was forbidden to see, was slapped bloody (Exodus 33:19-20). The thorns that God had sent to curse the earth's rebellion now twisted around his own brow...."On your back with you!" One raises a mallet to sink in the spike. But the soldier's heart must continue pumping as he readies the prisoner's wrist. Someone must sustain the soldier's life minute by minute, for no man has this power on his own. Who supplies breath to his lungs? Who gives energy to his cells? Who holds his molecules together? Only by the Son do "all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17). The victim wills that the soldier live on—he grants the warriors continued existence. The man swings. As the man swings, the Son recalls how he and the Father first designed the medial nerve of the human forearm—the sensations it would be capable of. The design proves flawless—the nerves perform exquisitely. -"Up you go!"

They lift the cross. God is on display in his underwear and can scarcely breathe. But these pains are a mere warm-up to his other and growing dread. He begins to feel a foreign sensation. Somewhere during this day an unearthly foul odor began to waft, not around his nose, but his heart. He feels dirty. Human wickedness starts to crawl upon his spotless being the living excrement from our souls. The apple of his Father's eye turns brown with rot.

His Father! He must face his Father like this! From heaven the Father now rouses himself like a lion disturbed, shakes his mane, and roars against the shriveling remnant of a man hanging on a cross. Never has the Son seen the Father look at him so, never felt even the least of his hot breath. But the roar shakes the unseen world and darkens the visible sky. The Son does not recognize these eyes.

"Son of Man! Why have you behaved so? You have cheated, lusted, stolen, gossiped, murdered, envied, hated, lied. You have cursed, robbed, overspent, overeaten, fornicated, disobeyed, embezzled, and blasphemed. Oh, the duties you have shirked, the children you have abandoned! Who has ever so ignored the poor, so played the coward, so belittled my name? Have you ever held your razor tongue? What a self-righteous, pitiful drunk you, who molest young boys, peddle killer drugs, travel in cliques, and mock your parents. Who gave you the boldness to rig elections, foment revolutions, torture animals, and worship demons? Does the list never end! Splitting families, raping virgins, acting smugly, playing the pimp, buying politicians, practicing exhortation, filming pornography, accepting bribes. You have burned down buildings, perfected terrorist tactics, founded false religions, traded in slaves, relishing each morsel and bragging about it all. I hate, loathe these things in you! Disgust of everything about you consumes me!

Can you not feel my wrath?"
Of course the Son is innocent. He is blameless itself. The Father knows this. But the divine pair have an agreement, and the unthinkable must now take place. Jesus will be treated as if personally responsible for every sin ever committed. The Father watches as his hearts treasure, the mirror image of himself, sinks drowning into raw, liquid sin. Jehovah's stored rage against humankind from every century explodes in a single direction.

"Father! Father! Why have you forsaken me?!"
But heaven stops its ears. The Son stares up at the One who cannot, who will not, reach down or reply. The Trinity had planned it. The Son endured it.The Spirit enabled him. The Father
rejected the Son whom he loved. Jesus, the God-man from Nazareth, perished. The Father accepted his sacrifice for sin and was satisfied.

the Rescue was accomplished.

The word Worship in hebrew is "shaw-khaw" Translated, it means to prostate, bow down, fall down, or to show reverence in homage to royalty or God.

On the 16th of February, Jesus Embassy came together for a Worship Night themed "Take it all". It was actually a collaboration with United - the Russian youth group. Our dear brothers from the Polytechnic University joined us in leading worship as well.

Much could be said about how awesome the event was, and how well the musicians played. It was just wonderful to watch the students loosen up and pour out their hearts to the Father.

The Bible says that heaven and all the earth declares the glory of God, and the angels in heaven constantly cover their faces as they stand in God's presence to worship Him.

With this in mind, it becomes clear that our words and even our minds cannot fully comprehend or capture the awesomeness of our God.

To describe the night in one word, one could say : worshipful.
At the end of it all only one thing is worth mentioning. "To Him be all the glory and honour and power!"
The highlight isn't the music , or the crowd , or the lives that were changed but JESUS. In the presence of God , one can only stand in awe and hunger for more.
