JE STUDENT CAMP : DESPERATION 09 – Impact Your World.

‘‘For indeed we are desperate people; we want more out of our lives;
We turn against routine; we want to fulfill the aching desires of our hearts;
We want to have a close contact with Christ so that we can be an Impact to our World.’’

Along with this, the committee of Jesus Embassy gathered and successfully put together the first ever student camp held in VATY tourists’ center on the Akhtuba River from the 1st-3rd of May 2009.

This was a time for us to not only grow into a whole new level of knowing God personally and intimately, but also to equip ourselves to be a positive influence in our community, impacting and changing lives of the people around us.

Consisting of 28 people, the camp was a huge success involving not only students from Volgograd, but also students from Moscow. They travelled all the way over to our little город герой to help make this event an even more meaningful one.

1st May 2009 (Friday)

On the much-awaited first day of camp, we arrived at the site at exactly 1pm. After settling in and getting acquainted with one another, we filled our stomachs with 2 good-ol’ McDonald’s chicken burger. We were then divided into 4 groups namely :
1) The Power Rangers
2) The Fantastic 6
3) The Conquerors
4) God’s Home
First up on the schedule was Games – what better than those involving water balloons. We were all geared up and busy strategizing to win. All hell broke lose when the whistle was blown as groups started running wildly through the forest, girls screaming their hearts out trying to protect themselves from getting wet. Although toes were cut, nails got split, sole had splinters, it was indeed a good way to start off the camp as everyone’s true colors were shown.
After dinner we had our first Session conducted by Xun Jin who spoke about whether there were MORE to life than what we had now. He further explained that God wants to make us inheritors of his kingdom so that we can be an impact to our world, knowing that we have been called for excellence.

2nd May 2009 (Saturday)

We started off with a 30 minute devotion, followed by a satisfying sausage and eggs breakfast. By 10am we started our 2nd session of the camp. We were more than honored and thrilled to have our guest speaker Ps. Simon Milongo to join us.
He shared about faithfulness, wisdom and discipleship. James 1:5 – If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. It is one thing to ask the Lord for wisdom, but on the other hand, we should also be ready to pay the cost thrown at us like time, money, and strength.
After lunch we had 2 workshops conducted by both Kelvin Yii and Xun Jin. Kelvin spoke about what worship and prayer is. Worship is our love response to what His word and spirit have revealed to us about glory and goodness. It is an expression of our authentic love for God. While prayer is basically communication with God.
Both worshipping and praying is not a set of rules. Instead, it is a heart’s longing and desire to get in touch with our Heavenly Father.
On the other hand, Xun Jin spoke about organizational leadership which meant adding value to people and to the organization, leading them to a better place or a higher level. And in every organization there are specific components needed for success, namely :
1) Purpose
2) People
3) Money
4) Assets

On our 3rd session, we had the privilege to once again listen to what Kelvin Yii had to say. This time about being Passionately Passionate! ‘Passion and persistency will make an average person superior, but a lack of passion will make a superior person average’. All in all, he concluded that passion spells out :
P – Purpose
A – Attitude
SS – Sacrificial Spirit
I – Incentive
O – Ownership
N – Never give up

We ended our 2nd day of camp with an amazing campfire @ BBQ before calling it the night.

3rd May 2009 – Sunday

Once again, we started off with a 30-minute devotion followed by breakfast of scrambled eggs and bread. We then proceeded with our 4th and final session of our camp, conducted by our own Dennis Katkov who shared about being Empowered to Impact. He spoke about not giving up even though we do not see any results immediately and continue to do good to others without expecting it in return. In other words, we should pass on the impact and be a blessing to the people around us.
We had some free time after lunch before the much-awaited Talent Time begun where every group had the chance to not only portray their talents and capability but also a time for us to just laugh, relax and have fun together.
As the end of the camp drew closer, we heavy heartedly packed up our bags and loaded them onto the bus. We took countless photographs, exchanged contact numbers and said our goodbyes before leaving the campsite.
All in all, this camp was indeed a great success as everyone left with a smile on their faces. I promise you, this is just the beginning of many more awesomeness to come! See you guys next year!

A few nights before valentines day, the guys asked me if I would be free on a Saturday as they were planning something special for fellowship. A Valentines event

On Saturday, at 7pm, Cheryl came by to make sure that the girls were decently dressed, I was still oblivious of the plans the guys were having. So around 7.30pm, four of us girls (Cheryl,Cecilia,Lyn Wei and I), went to Xun Jin’s room for our dinner. Right in front of us, we saw a long table, wine glasses, and other fine cutleries. It looked as if we had just entered a posh restaurant. We were asked to take our seats and in just a couple of minutes, the guys brought in our dinner. We were served Beef steak(with an awesome tasting black pepper sauce), mashed potatoes, and fresh saladsWe toasted and started our exquisite dinner. And much to our surprise, the guys prepared dessert as well. Chocolate-fondue with marshmallows, bananas, strawberries, and ice cream.

While enjoying our desert, Kelvin shared with us on the topic ‘love’.

We discussed about what Love is all about and Kelvin taught us about the 5 different kinds of Love in Greek and The 3 Myths of Love.

Kelvin then asked us what was our ‘dream valentine date’ would be like and it was nice to know that all of us, guys and girls have our own different wants, and perception of how we would like our valentine to be.

The best part was when we were asked to write a love poem containing 3 words: Hug, Love and Longkang water(drain water)..

Well, of our poems were no where near Shakespeare’s but it was pretty amusing. there wasn’t a winner for everyone had their own way of writing a poem, a few was funny, some corny, and for one or two pieces it was actually quite romantic even after the word ‘longkang water’ was included..=)

Fellowship/ dinner ended at 11pm. The guys surprised us once again. The brought us gifts!!!!!!and wats best? They gave us a sermon CD. about how to choose our life partner..(something we ALL need!) and…and…and… ROSES!!!!!!!...I was actually expecting a box of chocolates or something of that sort, but didn’t not roses.

In short, these guys actually brought a new meaning to Valentine’s Day. Its not only a day to celebrate as couples, romance etc, but it’s a day to celebrate with the ones we love, and our, brothers and sisters in Christ. It wasn’t only fun, it was something we all needed: being loved, being cared for, and also to love and to care…God Bless

All The Glory to Our Father in heaven!

WOW! Is all that can be said to express how I feel about Xmas Bash 08. It was such a privilege to witness the hard work, effort, and sweat poured out by everyone in Jesus Embassy leading up to Christmas Bash 2008 El Amore MAs Grande!. As it turned out, the event was indeed a night to remember. God’s love was shared with a crowd of more than 300 people on the 27th of December.

It wasn't long before the hall was filled with people, everyone looked Amazing. Many of our guests weren’t first timers and they have been looking forward to this annual event since the invitations were out week’s ago. There were at least 15 nations represented, It was the most diverse we had thus far. Guests from Russia, Malaysia, China, India, Ghana, Kenya, Congo, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Afghanistan, Iraq, Mauritius, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Vietnam and even Kazakhstan participated in this year’s Xmas bash. It is simply mind blowing to see so many nations of the world gathering together.

The night started with a introductory video clip of our previous Christmas Bashes followed by carols. This year’s carols though was rather unique as it started off with a rap of the song “Joy To The World” which ushered in the entire choir and before long the whole crowd started to sing. An exuberant atmosphere permeated the air throughout the night. There were live band performances from our own band AO1 (Audience Of One) and a Christian Russian rock 'AkEa'. The students were all hyped up as they jumped and sang along to the band was. We were then entertained by a traditional African dance and also a hilarious drama about how a South African family celebrates Christmas, which was wonderfully presented by the "The Impressions of God" drama team. We also had dance battle where we saw two team “battle it out” with amazing hip-hop and break dance moves that got everyone on edge . Our Poly tech students presented a musical mime based on Psalm 3 that God is a shield for us and in Him we stand strong. The girls did a dance to the song "Worthy is the Lamb" and people were just touched by the message of Jesus Christ that was shown. In the end our youth pastor came up and shared the message of How Jesus came on Christmas day to die for us and through Him we have salvation and eternal life.

The Mr and Ms Christmas award which we started last year seemed to have become a tradition. During the event itself, our organizers had secretly picked out a few nominees, these charming few were later required to dance, sing and even act out a marriage proposal to win the crowd over.

As it is for every Jesus Embassy event, food is always a highlight. This year we had an Asian fusion of Chinese and Indian cuisine. By God’s grace the food turned out well and was more than sufficient that People could even come back for second helpings and yet the food didn't run out. All the Glory to God!

One can only stand in wonder as we see how the events unfold especially when we started off with nothing. God provided the Funds, the man power and everything just fell in place even though there were some minor glitches. Indeed all praise and glory goes to You, Abba father, God of heaven and the earth

Ps. Kudos to all in Jesus Embassy, it is an honor working alongside with you guys and your dedication is indeed a great encouragement
